The Cinemas of the Mind Club meets on the second Monday of the month for a free post-screening discussion facilitated by Dr Jake Harvey, a forensic psychiatrist, and Jenny Leeburn, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, focussing on the psychological aspects of the film and the emotional impact on the viewer. The discussions are open to everyone – all perspectives, views and ideas are welcomed and encouraged to participate. The club meets shortly after the film screening, usually in the Studio, and discussions last for up to an hour. The upcoming screening is Josephine, a powerful and thought-provoking drama starring Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan. The film tells the story of a young child struggling to cope with the aftermath of a deeply traumatic incident. A peaceful father-daughter outing is shattered when eight-year-old Josephine witnesses a horrific sexual assault. As Josephine struggles to articulate what she has experienced, those around her find it equally difficult to cope with the aftermath of what has taken place. The film is a complex exploration of the pervading horror of violence in everyday life.
